In Our Hearts

The tragedy in Haiti goes beyond words, and beyond our worst nightmares. There is no true consolation in these moments; there is only the strength to keep moving, which we mysteriously find in ourselves and others. We are all in this together. Always. My beautiful friend and colleague, Rodney Gardiner, wrote lyrics after his family on Turks and Caicos endured Hurricane Hanna and were unreachable for far too long. I was honored to put those lyrics to music and create BUSY. May his heartfelt words remind us that, though pain is universal, so too is love and healing.

Meet The Composer Award

Lauren is a newly anointed recipient of the Meet The Composer Award for her upcoming workshops and performances in Indianapolis in spring 2010. Many thanks to Lynn Lupold of the Cabaret Theater for making this happen, and much gratitude for the folks at Meet The Composer for their profound mission and generosity!

Putting the "audio" back in A/V

Lauren's composition, inspired by the recent work of incredibly talented artist Eric March, will continue to be played at the Park Slope Gallery in Brooklyn, NY for those who make an appointment. It will also soon be available on this site to accompany a slideshow of his gorgeous paintings.

Lauren is asked to join BMI's Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop

Lauren was accepted into BMI's fantastic workshop for composers, lyricists and librettists. This workshop has produced some tremendous talent in the past, including "Avenue Q," "Next to Normal," and "A Chorus Line." Let's hope history repeats itself!
